LOCAL YOUTH ADVOCACY AGENCY PARTNERS WITH NATIONAL THEATRE PRODUCTION TO HELP
AFRICAN-AMERICAN MEN "TALK"

UNIVERSITY PARK, IL - What happens when five African American men (all different
ages and life experiences) get together to watch the game and the TV mysteriously
malfunctions? The new hit multi-media stage play "Real Men Talking".

\"Real Men Talking" uses a mix of "live" theatre, music and multi-media avenues to
explore the stereotypes and challenges faced by African American men throughout the
country. This experience takes these men, as well as the audience on a journey that
forces them to explore issues which include accountability, relationships,
self-esteem, incarceration, history, fatherhood and the falsehood of the streets.

"Real Men Talking" features video appearances from the man next door to some of
America's highest profile celebrities including Common, Hill Harper and Dr. Cornell
West just to name a few. The play is Executively produced and co-written by Marlon
Smith, world renowned motivational speaker and contributing author on "Chicken Soup
for the Soul" and features Chicago's own Mark Simmons of "Barbershop I and II",

of the National Youth Advocate Program. The agency serves abused, neglected and
troubled youth involved with the juvenile justice and child welfare systems. ILYAP
is working with Brown and a group of citizens from area business, schools and
churches to present the play and the "Real Men Talking" training to 8,000 youth and
families in the Chicago and south suburban area. With the recent wave of crime among
youth, the group seeks to unite and explore ways to affect state and local policy
